I suggest you take screenshots of everything related to this (especially your refund requests) and take it up to your bank as well. I'm going to take this up with my bank to see if they can help since this is technically a scam. At this point though, it seems they are prolonging until it passes the deadline in order to have more reason to deny my refund request. I have several days left before my "30 day" deadline for a guaranteed refund. And even when it was still available, it was completely free. Microsoft had long discontinued Windows Movie Maker (Jan2017). And then I went to do research on the program once more with "scam" attached. Perturbed at this point, I directed the conversation back to my refund request. But the way he phrased it felt off putting and more importantly, nobody was answering my refund request. After I explained, another response came from "Daniel Yuan." He hopped on the conversation by suggesting that I do this and that. At the time, it made sense to me that s/he would ask that because a seller should want customer feedback for further improvements.

The first person who replied to me was "Zhang," and was relatively professional and asked about why I was unsatisfied with the program. I then found a different program that was easier for my uses and had features I needed. (In retrospect though, what the hell was I thinking?) However, I found that the program was difficult to work with (the motion styles, in particular, were difficult to work with and didn't function properly a lot of the time). Initially, I didn't suspect anything because I thought it made sense that Microsoft would charge for certain features. I used the program when I was in middle school and haven't used it since but needed it for a recent project I was working on.

If I want to get a refund for a product I am unsatisfied with, should the item that I used the product to make be kept or deleted? If I got a refund, I wouldn’t be using the software anymore.įor example, if you bought a console that came with a free game, you would play it. But anyone would be angry for being deceived. I only learned after this whole incident that the website is a hoax. Yes, I admit I was hasty when it came to downloading it. The description is so vague that most people would believe it is free. And if you continue browsing the site, there are no signs of any purchase requirements OTHER than the warranty paragraph which had only one line stating the refund policy.

However, as you can see on the Windows Movie Maker site, on the top right, it shows “download for free”. Usually, when you are browsing through places to download something, there would be a price tag or some sort of note that tells you that you need to purchase it.
