Articles on Tékumel have appeared in general RPG magazines such as Dragon, The Space Gamer, Different Worlds, in dedicated magazines and fanzines such as Seal of the Imperium, and as postings by Professor Barker and his gamers to online forums and mailing lists.The game contains three large full-color maps and an 8 1/4" X 11" book containing a brief history of Tekumel, roleplaying rules, descriptions of various races and creatures involved, and more. In 1975, TSR released the first published rule set for this setting as Empire of the Petal Throne.

In a 1984 interview, Barker states that the Tsolyani language and its writing system had taken their present forms by the time he was twelve years old - long before his professional career as a linguist began.Barker's own role playing rules for Tékumel developed over many years. Professor Barker began creating this world in his imaginative play as boy, and as a setting for short stories he wrote as a young man. In this world, huge medieval empires contest each other using magic, large armies, and ancient technology. Barker, now a retired professor of Urdu and South Asian Studies. and there are certain supernatural powers which may intervene.Tékumel was created over several decades by M.A.R. A hostile world of poisonous flora and fauna, with intelligent and vengeful native races! Mankind and its allies must battle for survival with nothing save Medieval technology - but magic aids them. The setting for this fantasy campaign game is an alien planet, Tekumel, where a cosmic cataclysm stranded human and extra-territorial invaders eons past. Overall, the set is in very good condition.Tekumel, the world of fantasy and adventure. The art on the box top is in excellent condition, with one corner crease in the lower right corner, but no rips, marks, stains or other faults. The Box is moderately dished with three corners on the top and one side panel carefully repaired with glue moderate edge and corner wear on the box top and some moderate discoloration on the white box bottom. The three Maps are in excellent condition with light wear from storage evident at a couple of random locations.
The Rule Book has is in very good condition with moderate handling wear and smudges along the binding and right edge on the front and back cover. The inside components are in very good to excellent condition.
Barker and published by Tactical Studies Rules has been played and is verified as COMPLETE.
